“In summary, PBM for only 4 min/day signiﬁcantly inhibited the development of several clinically accepted and important lesions of DR. In particular, daily administration of PBM for 8 months signiﬁcantly inhibited the diabetes induced increase in vascular permeability and capillary degeneration that is characteristic of DR. Moreover, PBM protected against the reduction in visual function that is caused by diabetes. These ﬁndings have important implications for PBM as a potential adjunct therapy to inhibit DR and possibly other degenerative processes. It seems likely that PBM is having beneficial effects on the retina via multiple mechanisms.”
