Growing Mane & Tail with Light Therapy

Who would’ve guessed there could be an added bonus to using the Light-Ease Poll Wrap for my horse!?!  I started using it to calm him down and release the tension in his neck and poll, but found that is growing in new hair!

In 2022 my horse had a severe reaction to vaccines causing him to have a 106⁰ Fahrenheit temperature for 5 days.  Then in 2023, he was on quite a few medications for months. Both of these situations will cause hair damage, and of course his gorgeous long mane and tail thinned and there was a lot of breakage.  Needless to say, he lost a lot of the glamor that comes with beautiful hair.

Since mid-May this year, for about nine weeks, I’ve been using the Light-Ease Poll Wrap on him 5 days/week as a training tool, helping him to relax into the Parasympathetic state.  (More on that subject in a different post)

Then four weeks ago, his mane started parting down the middle, laying on both sides of his neck like a pony. At first I suspected his head and neck were in much better balance because the old-timers say a horse that’s well balanced has a mane the parts down the middle. Then last night I actually noticed that he has a bunch of new hair growth that’s about 3 inches long, and the upper half of his mane, closer to his head, is much thicker, but the lower half of his mane is still thin.  I realized this just might be due to the consistent use of the Light-Ease Poll Wrap over the area that has grown so much new hair! Wow!

We know that one of the many benefits to Red Light Therapy (aka photobiomodulation) is improved hair growth.  It makes sense due to the better circulation and more energy for the hair follicles.  But I really hadn’t thought about that applying to my horse.  This has inspired me to experiment.  I’m going to use the Light Ease Poll Wrap along the whole length of his mane. I’ll use the long velcro straps to secure it.

Look at these photos, see how thin his mane is near his shoulder? But up towards his head it’s really thick! So thick that it wants to split down the center!   I’m hoping to help his mane grow back to its original length, about 6 inches longer than it is now.

And I’ll put the Light-Ease Body Wrap around his tail to help increase the length and thickness of his hair there. I know that I’ll have to double up some hair into the velcro to secure it to the tail. And he will receive the added benefits of lighting up the end of his spinal cord for better communication with his brain!
